CFES is pleased to announce that the Memorandum of Understanding between the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) and CFES has been renewed.  This MOU is in support of Canada’s affiliation with the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS).  It is funded by the Government of Canada’s Grants to International Affiliations Program, which is operated by NRC and supports Canada’s membership in international science and technology organizations.   CFES is recognized as the representative of the Canadian communities working in the fields of geological research, and as such is responsible for creating and maintaining a Canadian National Committee for the IUGS (CNC-IUGS).   In the terms of the MOU, CFES acts as a liaison between the CNC-IUGS and ensures that CNC-IUGS submits annual performance reviews.

In this context, it is important to mention that under the leadership of Stephen Johnston, the CNC-IUGS has submitted exemplary reviews.  For the 2014 and 2015 reviews, CFES was informed by NRC that the maximum possible score on the Performance Review is 45, and that the average score of all affiliations supported by the Government of Canada’s Grants Program was 35.83.  In contrast, the CNC-IUGS score was an impressive 43.
