Geologist-in-Residence Program

The Canadian Federation of Earth Sciences and Parks Canada are proud partners in the Geologist-in-Residence program offered each summer at a National Park in Canada. The program provides an opportunity for an earth scientist, geoscience communicator, practicing or retired geologist, or geoscience graduate student to spend two weeks at a National Park delivering geoscience outreach and interpretation to visitors and staff. Established in 2022, the Geologist in Residence program at Pukaskwa National Park is now in its fifth year and will be offered again in 2026.

We are delighted to announce that the program is expanding this year. The new location for the GIR program this summer is Fundy National Park.

Application Process

Applications for the Geologist-in-Residence program at both Pukaskwa National Park and Fundy National Park are now open and will close on May 31st 2026.

To learn more and to apply for the Geologist-in-Residence position at Pukaskwa National Park, please refer to the Position description: Pukaskwa National Park, August 3 - 16, 2026.

To learn more and to apply for the Geologist-in-Residence position at Fundy National Park, please refer to the Position description: Fundy National Park, August 9 - 23, 2026.

The Geologist-in-Residence will spend their two-week on-site residency serving as a Parks Canada volunteer. During this time the volunteer will acquaint themselves with the geological assets of the park, and then educate park visitors and staff about the geological formations and phenomena of the park by delivering programs and presentations.
